I was a little thrown off at what looks like Hitler at the beginning of this video. It turns out this is at the end of an old Charlie Chaplin movie where a Jewish man is mistaken for Hitler and takes the podium. The speech slowly grows more powerful as it continues.
In the speech, Charlie Chaplin positions greed, power, and cynicism opposite technology and humanity. I’ve already watched this a couple times today and it’s restored my faith in people. It’s interesting to think that this monologue is just as appropriate for today’s context as it was all those years ago when the movie was originally released.
